Lady farmer jpeg Are You The Corrib Oil Lady Farmer Of The Year 2017? - Corrib Oil launched the 2017 ‘Lady Farmer of the Year’ competition at the Mayo Ploughing Championships on Sunday 16th of April. In attendance for the launch were judges John Lynskey – Chairman of the IFA National Sheep Committee, Assumpta Mullin – Secretary of South Mayo Quality Lamb Producer Group and Richard Moeran – Chairman of Agri Aware, last year’s winner Irene McKiernan also attended and staff members from Corrib Oil. “Our competition highlights the importance of women in farming and it shows that there are hundreds of farms that have women managing them along with holding down a job and being a homemaker,” says Tom Connolly of Corrib Oil. Irene McKiernan was crowned the 2016 Corrib Oil Lady Farmer of the Year at the National Ploughing Championships last September. Despite a busy career as a Veterinary Nurse Irene finds time to manage her 110 acre farm. This years 3 finalists will be contacted before the 28th of July 2017. One change to this years competition is that the finalists must be able to facilitate a Farm Visit by the Judges as part of the judging process. The final will take Place at The National Ploughing Championships – Screggan Tullamore , Co Offaly. The date and time will be confirmed the week before the National Ploughing Championships. The winner will receive a Galway Crystal engraved plate along with €1,000 and there will also be two runners-up prizes.
