Control your heating bills this Winter with Corrib Oil

By Corrib Oil | 3rd September 2018

Before you worry about heating costs there are many things you can do to ease the burden and a call to one of the Corrib Oil team or a visit to our website can help.

Corrib Oil have a great Smart Save Plan where you can save as little as €25 per week.

If you save €25 per week starting this week that’s €450 accumulated by January which will go a long way to making sure you get a substantial fill of oil in the New Year.

Check these other tips to help you save money:

  • Get your oil tank and system serviced so you know it’s in top condition and you are not wasting any valuable oil.
  • A serviced boiler runs more efficiently and is less likely to break down.
  • We are always very careful to get our car serviced so get your boiler serviced too.
  • Studies backed by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland say old boilers are wasteful.
  • If your boiler is more than 20 years old you need to consider a newer model. An investment will pay for itself in time to come. Newer models reduce the carbon footprint and use less fuel.
  • Turn down the thermostat at night and when you are away from home; even slightly lowering your thermostat during the day may save you up to two percent on your heating bill.
  • Stop heat loss by eliminating any gaps between your door and threshold. Use a seal that can be attached to the bottom of the door – it should brush up against the threshold to fill any gap.
  • Caulk or re-caulk exterior spaces between the windows and walls of your home.
  • Close your kitchen vent, fireplace damper and closet doors, and remove, cover or close air conditioning units and vents when not in use.
  • Make sure exterior walls, ceilings with cold spaces above, and floors with cold spaces below are all well insulated.
  • Install and close storm windows. Consider new glass designed to decrease radiant heat loss without lowering visibility.
